THE SIRENS

HoneyBee’s Competitive Groups

According to mythology, Sirens were said to have used their beautiful singing voices to lure sailors toward land, ultimately causing them to be shipwrecked and hopelessly enamored.  The magic these mystical women wielded when they sang was seductive and powerful.  Man and nature were equally helpless against the wickedly wonderful forces of nature that were the Sirens.

What you need to know:

  • There are 3 levels:  Sirens (Advanced), Junior Sirens (Intermediate), and Mini-Sirens (Beginner). Each level requires an audition/evaluation. We prefer that the groups be in place at the beginning of the school year, but exceptions can be made, depending on how much has been missed.
  • The Sirens will be HoneyBee’s best and most active female vocalists and will therefore have opportunities beyond those offered the rest of the music students. Some of these opportunities may include performances in the community, studio sessions, auditions, and other activities, and the privilege of competing at various competitions in the vocal category.
  • A Siren must be enrolled in private voice lessons (except for Mini-Sirens) at HoneyBee and must take the required music classes (Ensemble Singing, General Music, etc.).
  • The only fee for being a member of the Sirens is an annual entrance fee of $75, which is to cover music cuts, sheet music, classes/rehearsals all year long, and other supplies for the entire year. The fee is non-refundable. Competition fees must be paid separately for solos, duets, and/or group pieces that may be put in place.
  • While some of the auditions and other events may not be mandatory and may not be a fit for certain Siren members, it will be required that every member of The Sirens participate in the competitions we attend each year. Singing a vocal solo is optional. A student who is not a member of the vocal company will not be permitted to compete in the vocal category.
  • Each student who is invited to be a Siren and accepts that invitation must purchase a T-shirt, bearing the name/logo of the vocal company of which she is a proud member!
  • If a student meets all the above criteria and still does not receive an invitation for this special group, Mr. Erik will gladly discuss with that student and/or her parents what areas need to show improvement in order to get in for the next season – hard work always pays off in the long run, so please do not get discouraged if you are not invited for a certain year.
  • A Siren cannot be enrolled in private voice instruction anywhere other than HoneyBee, as it may conflict with our curriculum and teaching style.
  • Should a custom track be required for a chosen competition piece, which is at the sole discretion of the teachers, the cost for that track will be $125 (payable in 2 installments of $62.50 on the 15th of November and the 15th of December).
