CLASS/LESSON REQUIREMENTS

Most students are encouraged to and will want to take at least a private lesson, an ensemble singing class, and a general music theory class – this combination provides the most well-rounded music education for singers and musicians. Still here are some ground rules when determining what will work for your child:

  • If a child wishes to participate in all 3 vocal concerts (the main 2 shows are usually with a live band and a large audience and the other is a more intimate dinner theater), he/she must take a private voice lesson, an ensemble class, and a general music theory class.
  • If a student wishes to take only a private voice lesson and no classes, he/she may be allowed to do so in some cases, but may only participate in the small dinner theater in February, and not the two major concerts/musicals in winter and spring.
  • A student who is taking a 60-minute (or more) private voice lesson (or a combination of voice and an instrument totaling an hour) may choose to exempt general music, but must still take an ensemble class. But if he/she still wants the benefits of the group environment, he/she may still choose to take the class too.
  • The Let’s Sing class counts as an ensemble singing class.
  • A child who is 8 years of age or younger is NOT required to take a General Music class, but in some cases may be allowed to.
  • Anyone who is in our spring musical must be available on Thursdays for the open rehearsal spot, where we will work on staging, blocking, acting, and choreography for the big show. Also only those taking the mandatory classes may be cast in the musical.
